Rockland House
Project Credits
Rockland County Curved House
This house is a series of three intertwined, curved wings that move down the slope of a rocky outcropping in Rockland County, New York. Each module of the house is a few steps above or below the adjacent room, allowing the house to conform closely to the lay of the land. As a result you always feel as it you are moving with the land, not separated from it. There is a continuing sense of horizontality to the design, and because the curved walls are made of a long thin "Roman" brick, the materials contribute to this sense.
