Virgin Islands Cliff House
Project Credits
Construction Management: Benjamin Kahn
A new house created as a "village" of rooms built into the side of a rocky cliff overlooking the Virgin Island sea. Typical for the Islands, the house is made of concrete, both because the material is available and can last indefinitely against the ravages of the tropical moisture of the area. The rooms are finished in tile and plaster, again to provide long-lasting and colorful surfaces for this tough moisture-laden and warm environment. The roofs are structural wood beams with structural wood ceilings throughout, and metal roofs "capping" each room to form the visual sense of a series of buildings in the "village".
